Downtown Disney
The Walt Disney World resort in Orlando Florida has many options beyond the world famous theme parks.
Downtown Disney is an outdoor dining, shopping, and entertainment district.
Entertainment
The West Side of Downtown Disney features the Cirque du Soleil show called La Nouba. You can't miss the huge, white tent-like theater where skilled performers, acrobats, and gymnists perform in a modern, free-form show that is unique and engaging.
The West Side is also home of DisneyQuest, an indoor interactive theme park. Much more than a simple arcade, you can create and then ride your own roller coaster, shoot cannons at pirate ships, and ride a magic carpet. Plus at the Animation Academy an instructor will teach you how to draw a Disney character.
If you are in the mood for a movie, the AMC Theater Complex has 24 screens. Each theater is state of the art but recalls the grand Art Deco style of the 1920s.
Shopping
The stores of Downtown Disneyare generally open from 10:30am to 2:00am, while restaurants are open from 11:00am to 1:00am and nightclubs open between 7:00pm and 9:00pm until 2:00am.
Some of the most popular current stores include World of Disney, Virgin Megastore, LEGO Imagination Center, The Art of Disney, and Orlando Harley-Davidson.
Dining
All of that shopping and partying can create quite an appetite. Restaurants include Bongos Cuban Cafe (by Gloria Estefan), House of Blues, Planet Hollywood (in the giant blue ball), Raglan Road (Irish food), Rainforest Care, Wolfgang Puck, Fulton's Crab House, and T-Rex Cafe.
For those looking for a quick bite to eat, there is a McDonalds, Wolfgang Puck Express, and Ghiradelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop (where you can often get a free sample of chocolate!). |
